Tonight's Selectboard Meeting

I was unable to attend tonight's selectboard meeting, so I would appreciate hearing reports and impressions from those who were there. I have heard that we still do not have a police chief.

  1. Though I disagree with him on other points, I agree with Bill Perlman that the Select Board needs to rebuild the town's trust. In fact, this is one aspect of the whole situation that's been completely overlooked. For nearly five years, the Select Board allowed the situation in the police department to continue. I feel they should publically acknowledge this, apologize, and explain how it happened.
They should also take the consequences of their actions. I have felt from the beginning that it is unjust to dismiss John (the letter of intent not to renew his contract is, in effect, a dismissal) after allowing him to continue for years without even a warning. Once he was confronted, John has shown a willingness to change. If he had been confronted four years earlier, this whole situation might have been easily avoided.
I'm not defending John's actions. I'm simply saying that he is not the only one to blame. Though he seems to be the only one being blamed.
